Hydrocephalus with proper management of external ventricular devices (EVD) is important to ensure patient safety. This presentation will discuss the role hydrocephalus plays in causing neurological decline in acutely ill patients, the purpose of a ventriculostomy, and demonstrate the management of the EVD during transport. The attendee will then learn how they are used, what not to do, what is normal pressure, what does a normal wave look like, what are concerning signs (too much CSF output, bright red blood), when to call for guidance, and the importance of continuing drainage.
