Group Crisis Intervention
Wednesday, May 24, 2023 8:00 AM - Thursday, May 25, 2023 4:00 PM (CDT)
Description
This 2-day course, combined with the Assisting Individuals in Crisis course, comprise the two basic foundational courses for Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), a process created to equip participants in providing basic, initial care for people who have experienced a critical incident. It is a form of “psychological or emotional first aid” designed to begin the process of helping individuals, using different group techniques, cope better with these incidents. Crisis Intervention is NOT psychotherapy or a substitute for psychotherapy, but rather a specialized, acute, emergency mental health intervention that follows specific protocols and requires specialized training. Program Highlights • Relevant research findings • Relevant recommendations for practice • Incident assessment • Strategic intervention planning • “Resistance, resilience, recovery” continuum • Informational group crisis interventions (RITS & CMB) • Interactional group crisis interventions (Defusing & CISD) • Possible adverse outcomes associated with crisis intervention • Reducing inadvertent risks • Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) Contact Stephanie McKinnis at Smckinnis@ncttrac.org if you have questions.
